Choosing where to go for your first destination can be a difficult task. So, I've put together a list of the top 3 places I would recommend for your first solo trip!

Do you want to start solo traveling, but are too nervous to actually do it? Or maybe you're just looking for a little bit of guidance to finally take that leap and do it?
Then my Solo Traveler's Handbook is perfect for you!
United States
1. Chicago, IL
Chicago continues to be a great solo destination thanks to its top-notch museums, ample parks, and user-friendly public transportation system. Furthermore, there are plenty of accommodations to choose from for every kind of traveler, and nearby shopping along the Magnificent Mile—and that's just the beginning. The city always has something going on and you won't feel lonely being in such a big and popping city! I would plan to spend around $150-$200 per day.

2. Charleston, SC
A solo trip to Charleston is great for foodies, art lovers, and more! There are over 50 galleries and so many amazing restaurants to check out. Outside of that, it's an affordable and safe destination which makes it perfect for solo travelers. I would plan to spend around $50-$100 per day in Charleston.

3. Denver, CO
Are you looking for a mountain getaway? Then Denver is your choice. Denver has the best public transportation in the country which makes it amazing for solo travelers. It's also a very vibrant city and with endless outdoor activities regardless of the season. I would plan to spend around $150 per day in Denver.

Outside of the USA
1. Ljubljana
Ljubljana is a safe, walkable place for solo travelers with lots of things to do and plenty of delicious places to eat and drink at. Overall, the people are very friendly and helpful. The city itself isn't that big, but there's enough there to fill 2-3 days, and then you can use it as a base to explore elsewhere in Slovenia.

2. Portugal
Recently, Portugal has become one of the safest countries in Europe! Violent crime is almost nonexistent and petty crimes like pickpocketing are very rare. Portugal is safe and there are no known areas to avoid, but always be aware of your surroundings and take precautions when traveling at night (like anywhere).

3. Thailand
Thailand is one of the most popular destinations in Southeast Asia. Home to a rich diversity of landscapes, attractions and activities, it’s a great place for solo travellers looking for their first adventure. Thailand is great for your first solo trip because there are lots of other travelers, a wide range of places to stay, budget-friendly prices, amazing food, good transportation options, and more!

In Conclusion,
These are just a few amazing destinations for your first solo trip! I LOVE solo travel and think that everyone should go on one at least once in their life. It's safer than you think, more flexible, and so empowering. Comment below if you are interested in reading about more solo travel destinations!
